THOMAS W. KELLUM, III, PE
BIO
Thomas W. Kellum, III, PE is a Lowcountry native and the founder of Kellum Engineering, LLC. The son of small business owners, Thomas learned from an early age the level of discipline and dedication needed to make a business successful. Key to these lessons were quality of product and great customer service. These values, and many more, were reinforced through his education at Bishop England and The Citadel. He graduated from The Citadel in 2006 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Since graduation, he has compiled an extensive project resume while working with well-established local design firms.
EXPERIENCE
Thomas has 16 years of experience in the AEC industry with an emphasis on civil site design. Prior to starting KE in 2020, he gained extensive experience working for two well established firms providing civil, surveying and land planning in Charleston, SC. His positions included LSIT, EIT, Staff Engineer, Project Manager and eventually Vice President of Engineering overseeing a department of approximately 25 design professionals. In those various roles, Thomas gained experience in all aspects of horizontal project needs including surveying, land planning, design & permitting, inspections, construction administration & commissioning/closeout services. In the short time since establishing KE his team of 5 licensed Professional Engineers has provided services for 70+ projects totaling over 1,500 multi-family units, 750 single family lots and 2.5 million square feet of buildings for retail, commercial and industrial use facilities.
PAST PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Past project experience includes providing civil engineering services on residential, commercial, institutional, municipal and industrial projects. Thomas has provided design services to over 20 regional and national residential builders resulting in 4,000+ single family and multi-family residential units being constructed. His municipal work includes key infrastructure projects including multiple regional pump stations, hundreds of miles of local roadways, as well as community resources like the Maybank Tennis Center and East Bay Bike Path. He has also provided civil engineering designs on projects that serve many local institutions including Trident Technical College, Porter-Gaud O’Quinn, Charleston County School District and the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. His industrial project experience includes services for Boeing South Carolina, Cummings Turbo Technologies and multiple economic development projects that have resulted in millions of square feet of manufacturing space for valuable job providers in our community.
